Honour your Shadow

Soul Doctor podcast strikes again!

I was listening to episode 1 of season 2 today and yet again, the messages where synchronistic for what I have already been thinking.

For years I have been reading positive affirmations online and hearing people say how they work for them.

Over the last few years I have had a different feeling about them.

I had come to agree with some other authors of various works that focussing on positivity too much redirects your attention away from the negative, in effect preventing us from truly dealing with it. We have triggers, programs and patterns for a reason, and they come up to be healed. Also, it prevents us truly knowing ourselves and loving ourselves unconditionally.

If we always redirect from the unpleasant emotions, we aren’t really releasing them. They are merely suppressed until they come out another way, through illness and dis-ease.

We have to honour our anger, sadness, grief, shame and all the other unpleasant emotions. We have to feel them to release them and truly move forward. We have to go through it, we can’t ignore it or cut it away and simply move on.

There is a lot to learn in our pain, especially about our own actions that lead to it. If we never face our crap, we can never heal it properly and will be destined to repeat the same patterns over and over again.

We cannot ignore our shadow, for it is our greatest teacher.

How I will stop moaning and start doing

I’ve just been watching a clip by Lee Harris, his April energy update, and in it he says that we need to stop moaning about the wrongs in this world and start finding solutions.

Ok, it wasn’t quite that blunt, but I have the right to paraphrase! This is what I took from it anyway.

So, what am I angry about this month? What am I moaning about this month?

That people don’t want to take responsibility for their pain, but rather blame others.

This one is a hard one because there isn’t much I can actually do. You can lead a horse to water, as the old saying goes. But, I can refuse to accept responsibility and remove myself from the situation. If I stop allowing myself to be someone’s scapegoat, then perhaps this will lead them on an inner journey of self discovery and healing when they no longer have anyone around to blame. Or, they’ll find someone else. Either way, what happens after isn’t my responsibility either.

My other option could be to start a healing business. I am a Reiki Master after all, and I have done a lot of work on myself so I have a lot of strategies that can help. But again, the horse analogy comes into play. On the other hand, if I build it, they will come, right?

That I am not living my purpose

This is a tricky one, because I’m not entirely sure what my purpose is. I know what I am passionate about – helping people move past their patterns and programs and becoming the best version of themselves – I am just not clear on the best way to do this. Is it through tarot and Numerology? Is it through energy healings? Is it through Mediumship? All of these things have helped me, as well as kinesiology, meditation, yoga and journaling, but I’m not qualified to offer advice on most of these.

So, I guess my only plan at the moment should be creating a plan. What can I do to help people? How can I best serve humanity? What are my strengths and how can I use them for my purpose? This one will take some further contemplation.

That people still haven’t realised how bad animal agriculture is for our health, the animals and the planet.

This is where activism comes in. I will write a post about this later, but I’m not sure my role is standing up holding banners outside of circuses or rodeos. I’m just too sensitive to energies for that kind of activity. My strengths are organisation and practical assistance, so perhaps my role is to help people organise protests, get permissions and check legal requirements, create banners for them and to organise people once they are there? Maybe it is simply to volunteer at festivals and fairs like the Alive festival? Maybe it is having conversations with people, planting the seed and leading them to documentaries and information about what is really going on? This way they will come to their own conclusions and make the decision themselves. It’s a kind of quiet activism, non-confrontational, yet just as powerful.

That people still think being a feminist is a bad thing

Luckily for me, a lot of this information has come in conversations with students at school. One student said that how feminists are getting their point across is abrasive and turning ordinary men against them. My response was that until you had experienced what women have experienced, you don’t really have a say in how they should respond. Not sure if he understood what I was trying to say, but I hope he at least came away with a better understanding of what the feminist movement is all about. Even yesterday, students were talking about feminism. It seems it is on the rise, but not in a good way. Perhaps my ‘planting the seed’ idea could work here too? Give them a different opinion and some resources and let them on their merry way. I can’t force people to see things from a different perspective, but I can give them another one and hope they open their minds.

So, it seems there is quite a bit I could be moaning about this month. There is probably a lot more too, I just haven’t sat with it long enough.

I do know this, nothing changes if you continue to do the same thing. In order to change your life you must first change your actions. So, here’s to change! Looks like there’s quite a bit coming for me.

What are you moaning about this month? What are some ways you could solve this problem?

March Energy Update: a Southern Hemisphere Perspective

It’s sometimes hard for me in the Southern Hemisphere, when I watch YouTube clips about what is going on in the world, to apply it to us Down Under. Most of the clips I see are from people in the US and they often talk about the seasons and how this affects the energy. This puts me off a bit, because we are always back the front.

It gets me wondering about the validity of the information for us down here. If they are talking about going into Spring and the excitement about the impending Summer, how does that translate to us if we are going into Autumn?

This happened in the clip I watched yesterday morning. It was Victor Oddo’s March energy update and he immediately went on about the seasonal shifts for them. I wanted to turn it off then and there, but I decided to accept what my ego was telling me and listen instead to my higher self and watch on.

Turns out he had a lot of good information and this is how it applies to me:

  1. Creating your reality: I am actually doing this more. I am choosing to see things from a different perspective, accept that I don’t know the truths people are acting from and deciding to do what makes me happy. This is creating my reality. No longer am I bound by my ego’s impressions and perceptions of the world and it feels great!
  2. Learning lessons faster: this one I have already talked about, but it doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon. Situations are now coming up thick and fast and I am getting the lessons quicker and quicker, it’s kind of overwhelming. I do need to spend a lot of time alone to ensure they assimilate and that I don’t get too overwhelmed. I have to allow myself a ‘time out’. That part is about self-care.
  3. Learning to be more compassionate and forgiving: definitely this one. And in the public school system, it is a must! Teenagers do a lot of things on impulse and lack of understanding and it is important to forgive them and be compassionate towards them, especially if they come from a certain demographic. A lot of people forget this and judge them too harshly, myself included in the past. But more generally, I am finding I am more aware that I have no idea what is going on in the lives of other people. As an empath, I do have to be careful of how close I get, but that doesn’t stop me from showing or having compassion for that person and holding space. This is definitely something that is happening right now.
  4. Opportunity to be a masterful manifester: this one I have also blogged about before and I am sure continues to happen, there’s just not a lot that I need right now! I am totally trusting that the universe will provide what I need. Though it is a powerful reminder to let things go. I still haven’t got my flights booked for Cambodia next month. I was starting to freak out a bit and see if I could borrow some money to buy them soon as I don’t want to pay thousands for them when I can book them. This I will now leave to Spirit to guide me to – some cheap flights with a direct flight one way and a long layover in Singapore the other way, at a time where I can get out and enjoy the town!
  5. Looking after you health: this one I think links to our health and the realisation of our own inner soul and the importance of looking after the vessel it’s in. This has also been on my mind. I have been experiencing some IBS symptoms for quite some time now and I have finally got the ball rolling to see what’s actually going on in there. I need this body to be healthy so I am at optimal capacity to do my work, what I came here to do. Now more than ever, I realise the importance of looking after this meat suit so that I can have a long and happy life, and also have more time on this earth to do the work I am here to do.

So, it seems it still fits perfectly. It will be interesting to see what happens closer to winter, as we truly start to wind down and the Northerners start to ramp up for Summer.

What I do know from this is that my ego is getting quieter and my higher/true self is becoming stronger. I could have stayed in my ego, turned the clip off and not learned what I have, but my higher self spoke louder and it paid off!

If you want to hear his words for yourself and see how they relate to you, please follow the link above. I haven’t had a look at other forecasts as yet, but feel free to add any links to people you resonate with on YouTube below! I am always happy to share the knowledge!

The Holier-Than-Thou Effect: overcoming self-righteousness.

We’ve all been there. At least once. It usually comes from something we’ve learned about ourselves, the world or spirituality.

We understand immediately that not everyone else knows this, or comes close to seeing it, and some of us start to feel superior. As if we are part of a secret club that is separate from and better than everyone else. We start preaching to people about how this truth will change their lives.

For others, including myself, this feeling of separation leads to intense loneliness. In an attempt to overcome this, we start trying to help people by preaching our truth to them, hoping they too see what we see and come and join us.

This is what I call the Holier-than-thou Effect. The self-righteous behaviour and attitudes that are the result of feelings of separateness or superiority through our own personal growth and healing.

The main behaviour sees us preaching our ‘holier-than-thou’ truth to all and sundry. We see that other people are struggling and, out of a desire to help, start providing unsolicited advice about what they should do to help themselves.

This is the key, it is unsolicited. We take it upon ourselves to point out what we see about other people’s behaviours and attitudes and how they are blocking them from reaching their full potential.

And we value our advice. It came from years of experience. What better advice is there than from someone who has ‘been there, done that’?

But our advice falls on deaf ears. We become frustrated at our thwarted attempts to help these people. We question over and over why they can’t see what is plainly and clearly in front of them, sometimes within them. We don’t understand why they just don’t accept what we are telling them and commit to our suggestions for moving forward.

The truth is that what worked for us, and hopefully continues to do so, worked because we are who we are. It worked because we were ready to hear the message. It worked because we were ready to do the work.

What worked for us may not work for other people, because they come with their own unique set of programs, patterns and experiences. Reiki changed my life. That doesn’t guarantee that it will for my neighbour. Essential oils have helped me with so many physical and emotional issues. That doesn’t guarantee it will for my sister. Being vegan changed my life and allowed me to fully accept and love myself for who I am. That doesn’t mean it will for my best friend.

These things worked because they are igniting a part of who I am. They are tapping into my own individual soul’s vibration and unlocking the blocks to my own happiness. It is my own recipe for peace.

Someone else’s recipe might be kinesiology, nutrition, counselling, theta healing, crystals, angelic reiki, past life regression work, dance, Kundalini work, medication, art therapy, yoni massage, yoga, Zumba, chakra clearing… The list goes on.

What worked for us may not work for someone else.

Being self-righteous and preaching our truth to people who don’t want to or aren’t ready to listen only drives a bigger and bigger wedge between them and us. In some cases this wedge becomes that large we can no longer reach each other.

We must learn to wait until they come to us. We must be patient and compassionate with people who we know are clearly in need of healing. They must come to the path of their healing journey on their own. We must also accept that they may never be ready.

All we need to do is hold space for them when they are ready.

Practical Guide to Protecting Against Negative Energy

There is a lot of information out there on how to protect your energy from negativity, psychic attacks and the like.

What I notice is a lot of the practices require you to find a quiet place, centre yourself, take 10 deep breaths and basically go into a meditative state.

This is fine if you have plenty of spare time, but a lot of us don’t.

And they don’t always help in the moment.

Sure, you can white light bubble before you leave the house, but this only helps so far. Especially for us empaths, who always tend towards the open, helping kind of energy before we learn to shield it out. No amount of grounding, white light and crystals helped me when I would just go out and be ‘open’ anyway.

I had to learn this one very important lesson, as do many of us highly sensitive people.

Self-Awareness.

You must be aware of what is happening inside of you at any given moment. You must be present in your own mind and heart so that when negative energy does come your way, you are aware of it.

Sometimes it is so very subtle and it builds quietly in the background like a peasant revolt. They quietly gather their forces, a person here and another two there, biding their time. All of a sudden they strike, and you have no clue who you are, where you are or what day it is.

Self-awareness allows you to recognise when the peasants are massing and take action before they get too powerful.

You can see the little negative thoughts or feelings and nip them in the bud before they can flower.

The ‘how’ is the interesting part. You don’t need to sit in a quiet place or meditate, burn sage, chant mantras or cover yourself in crystals. Unless you want to, and I often do. But these things don’t help in the moment.

Here are some things you can do ‘in the moment’ to stop the cloud growing:

1. White light bubble: yep, white light bubble. But, you don’t have to sit quietly anywhere. Just see the bubble around you and quickly visualise the negativity going back out, either to the source or the universe for healing. Your bubble doesn’t have to be white either. It can be gold, pink, green, even a tinted window, you know the ones that reflect the light? They kind of look like a hematite to me, but the purpose is to reflect the energy back.

2. Call on your guides, guardian angels, etc: They are always there, waiting to be of service. You don’t need to meditate to call on them, they are that reliable friend who never lets you down or cancels or goes on holiday. All you have to do is think ‘help’ and trust they will do what needs to be done.

3. Cutting cords: cords attach between us and other people all the time. Some only for a while, but with those particularly negative or needy people, they can stay and drain you of your life force. Luckily, there is an easy method to use to get rid of them! I simply visualise a giant, magical sword swinging down in front of and behind me, affirm that all unnecessary cords and attachments are now severed and ask my inner light to heal the etheric wound. You don’t need to go anywhere quiet or alone, just visualise this sword cutting the cords mid-conversation. You’ll probably have heaps of time to do this (it only takes a second!), because most negative people are only talking at you anyway. They will welcome the chance to continue talking. And you can let them, safe in the knowledge that you are protected.

These are three techniques that I use all the time. There are plenty of others you can do once the conversation is over, but these will help you in particularly potent negative energy and stop it growing.

An Empath’s Guide to Staying in Your Own Energy

As empaths, it is sometimes – ok, often very difficult to stay in our own energy. We want to help, because we can see and feel people suffering every day. What tends to happen naturally as we interact with others is we create cords to these people or situations. Many of these are harmless. Others, however, become quite harmful if allowed to continue to exist and we either give our energy to the other person, or accept theirs as our own.

What we often forget, myself included, is to maintain self care. It is very important that we clear our energy as frequently as necessary and cut these cords that are affecting us.

I was in a situation very recently where I failed to maintain self care. After several months, I became disorientated, confused, emotional, exhausted and eventually sick. This was the consequence of me not looking after my own energy first. I managed to clear it with the help of my amazing Kinesiologist, but through this experience I realized it is much more effective to look after yourself on a daily basis. You might find that you need help from a therapist of this kind at some point, so follow your own intuition as to whether you need this extra boost.

In the meantime, the following are a few tips to maintaining your own energy levels that you can perform daily. Some of them take a few moments while others are a bit more elaborate, so choose which one you like or have time for. Just remember, it is all about intent.

smudge

  1. White Sage: This is an excellent cleanser. Simply light the incense and run the smoke over your body through your aura. Make sure you start this practice with a statement of intent, such as ‘I intend for this incense to cleanse and purify my aura and cut and heal any cords or attachments’. If you need a heavy duty cleanse, pair it with dragonsblood, as this amplifies the properties of any incense it is burning with. Most people will use a smudge stick, but I often use an incense stick out of sheer laziness. Both work just as effectively. Find out what works best for you and the time you have at your disposal.
  2. Reiki: Reiki is powerful energy healing that can heal on all three levels – mind, body and spirit. It helps to keep us energized and centred. I will do this one of four ways: reiki myself to sleep by placing my activated hands on my body as I drift off, draw the power or master symbol on the shower head and have a reiki bath, give myself a full reiki session, or send distance reiki to myself, programming it to be sent to me throughout the day or whatever other period I wish. These are just a few, but with reiki, the only limit is your imagination! This may be more difficult if you aren’t reiki attuned, however, you can always find a practitioner in your area to work with as a therapist or your reiki master teacher.
  3. Crystals: These are good for protection or fortification, but some, like amethyst, will clear and transmute the negative energy around you and others, like clear quartz, can be programmed. They are also very easy to use, as you simply put one on your person in a pocket or wear as jewelry. You can also pair them together: I have paired amethyst and apache tear (obsidian) together for clearing and protection. Just remember, that some crystals don’t ‘like’ each other in the sense they don’t vibrate at the same frequency or are trying to do two separate things. I once had an amethyst pendant break after wearing it with a carnelian… Follow your gut, but do your research too!
  4. Essential Oils: I have recently made myself a spray with sage and white angelica, but many people who use these oils simply use white angelica neat on the back of their neck. You can put them anywhere you feel drawn to. I simply spray my aura and body with the spray whenever I feel drawn as an extra boost or if I’m in a hurry. A spray is also good to have as it can cleanse spaces, such as offices, class rooms, cars etc.
  5. Visualisation: This can be done in a meditation, but often we don’t have time. For when you feel bombarded or leave a conversation not feeling quite yourself, here are some visualisations that can help you to disconnect and reconnect with you quickly:
    1. Visualise yourself in a protective outfit of some kind, affirming that this will protect you throughout the day. If you don’t like the word ‘protect’ (I was not a huge fan, as it implied there was something to I needed protection from, but other people’s energy, if left unchecked, is that something), I often say ‘my energy is my own’ and I visualise a black cloak, or thick honey, or full armour, or chainmail surround my body and my aura, keeping my energy in (as we often project stuff to others) and other’s energy out.
    2. Visualise a sword or knife swinging down in front of you and down your back, ask that all cords and attachments are severed and healed. You can also invoke a deity or angel, usually Archangel Michael, in this process as well.
    3. Go out into the sun and feel or visalise the rays coming down and ask that they transmute any negative energy in your aura, sever and heal all cords and attachments and reconnect you with your own source energy.
    4. Reiki power symbol can be used around you or the room you’re in by drawing it on the four compass directions and above and below you creating a powerful, cleansing reiki box.
    5. Visualise roots from the soles of your feet or the base of your spine, extending deep into mother earth. Ask her to send her healing energy back up into your body and aura to cleanse and purify your energy. This one is good as it can be done anywhere, even on the toilet, which is often the only place we get any privacy!
  6. Meditation: This is the big one. I often do a short 15 minute meditation which clears my chakras, or where I simply lie down and connect to my own soul essence. It doesn’t have to be this long, elaborate meditation with candles and sage burning. Just a simple meditation with the intent to reconnect with your own energy and clear that which doesn’t serve you will suffice. Monkey mind will most likely get in the way, just accept it and remember that sitting in your own energy is one of the most effective ways to boost your strength. meditation
  7. Grounding on the grass: This will be one of the more difficult for some, especially those who live in big cities. All you need to do is sit or stand on the grass, visualise the roots extending deep into mother earth and ask her to replenish your energy. You can also send the excess energy down to her, just remember to ask it to be transmuted,  cleansed and healed – we don’t want to start sending her negative or lower energy! There’s enough going on without us unintentionally adding to it. This is good for the more kinesthetic among us, those who need to do something tangible.
  8. Exercise: this is also one for the kinesthetic among us. Any exercise done alone with the intention of reconnecting with yourself will work a treat. I wont go into the science or biology here, I have just found that 30 minutes of yoga or walking or cycling works wonders for getting me out of the muck and back to myself. Find what works for you, and remember it is all about intent. yoga

This is by no means a definitive list, but it is certainly a start. As I always say, follow your own gut and do what works for you. Just find something you can do on a daily basis to keep your energy your own. Feel free to add any ways you have found successful in the comments below!

Veganism

Do the animals need more love and light?

I was talking with some friends the other day and the topic of animals came up. Namely what we are doing to them and their habitats. We all acknowledged that the state of the world’s environments and how we are treating animals is deplorable. I was in a highly emotional mood and ended up in tears about it. Sobbing in fact. What was their solution? To send the planet and the animal kingdom love, light and healing.

Are you kidding me? I got quite angry at this point, realising the hypocracy of it all. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for sending love and healing to the planet, people and situations. I am a reiki master, so I believe (know) it works. Where the hypocracy lies, for me, is in the intention to heal the planet and then continuing to eat animals, the very thing we know is contributing to its destruction. You might as well do your healing while eating a salmon sandwich!

The logical part of my brain kicked in too. Energy cancels out. If you have one negative charge and one positive charge of the same value, add them together and you have zero. It’s the same in maths: 17 + -17 = 0. Always. In either order. So sending positive energy and healing to something then participating in the continuation of the very thing you want to heal? It cancels out! You may as well save your time and energy and just do nothing. The sad truth is that there is more negative energy pouring into this situation by people participating in it, than positive, so what ever positive energy is sent won’t even come close to totally cancelling out, let alone tipping the balance. Sending the positive would be a full time job, but most of us already have those! At some point sending love and light needs to be replaced with action. We need to stop adding to the negative charge. We need to acknowledge the shadow and then do something about it!

I totally understand that people need to come to things in their own time – my day job as a high school teacher taught me all about trying to get people to do things they don’t want to do. And I definitely need to have more compassion for people who have not made the connections I have, because the Gods know there are many much simpler ones I have failed to make, my recent connection about protein tells me that. I am far from perfect and I don’t need a devil’s advocate here, but I am trying.

ghandi

We can send all the love and light we want, and I totally encourage it! But first we need to recognise that our own actions are contributing to the situation in the first place and change our approach. We need to stop adding to the situation by removing ourselves as much as possible from it. It doesn’t even have to be overnight, changes like this are massive and need time. My transition took around 6 months, and half of that I wasn’t even aware I was heading to this point. I just know that this situation isn’t going to change while good people stand by and do nothing.
